Level 4 water restrictions came into effect on 1 June 2017 in response to the ongoing drought that has resulted in critically low dam levels. The associated Level 4 tariffs and the annual tariff increases will come into effect on 1 July 2017.In order to help preserve our water resources, we need to continue saving water and we urge you to keep your combined home, work, and other water use to less than 100 litres per person, per day. Hefty fines and/or prison sentences apply for contraventions.

Please ensure you make saving water a way of life and comply with Level 4 water restrictions by:

• Checking and fixing all leaks on your property
• Using alternative water sources where possible
• Using municipal drinking water only for essential washing, cooking and drinking purposes

Tariffs

Following a public participation process and the approval of the City’s Budget 2017-2018, changes to the electricity, water and sanitation, and refuse tariffs will come into effect on 1 July 2017.

Please note:

• We have taken on board National Treasury’s comments regarding the continued affordability of offering free basic services to all residents. We are therefore phasing out free basic water provision and it will eventually only be available for indigent persons.
• Due to the extensive public engagement, we have also decided to delay the introduction of the proposed electricity Home User Tariff. Consumers in properties above the value of R1 million will now remain on the Domestic Tariff. We will undertake further public engagement on the Home User Tariff at a later stage.

All tariffs are still primarily based on a consumptive charge and you are encouraged to reduce your consumption.
